JOHN 14:1-7
1 “Don’t let your heart be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, so that where I am you may be also. 4 You know the way to where I am going.”,
5 “Lord,” Thomas said, “we don’t know where you’re going. How can we know the way?”
6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you know me, you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
HEAR:
We see here in this text that Jesus is assuring his disciples that he would go before them in the new heavens and earth and prepare a place for them. He explains that the only way to the place he is going is through himself.
Listen to the Holy Spirit and pray. Specifically, think about the following:
Have you ever tried to access (or earn) God’s presence by any means other than through Christ? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal those to you and repent. (v. 6)
Jesus tells the disciples that he going to prepare a room for them in his Father’s house. Take a moment to meditate on the kindness of our Savior. (v. 2)
The disciples didn’t understand where Jesus was going, yet Jesus still called them to trust in Him. Do you have this kind of trust in Jesus? Spend time reflecting on this. (v. 5)
RESPOND:
The writer of Hebrews 10:19-22 says
“Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”
Through Jesus, we have full access to the throne room of God. Jesus says in John 14:7, “If you know me, you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
Use this time to respond to God in prayer:
Spend time thanking God for the access he has given us to himself through his son Jesus. Approach him and thank him boldly because He has given us the ability to do so!
Intercede boldly on behalf of those in your life who may not know Christ’s love. Pray that Christ would become evident to them as the only path to eternal life with the Father.
Ask God to increase our awareness of his presence and the 24/7 access we have to Him through Jesus.
